And You Can Count On Atlanta

The U.S. Constitution mandates that a census, a systematic count of the U.S. population, be conducted every 10 years. The information is used to determine political representation and to allocate federal funds. It will only take a few minutes for you to complete your household’s 2020 Census Survey, but your participation will help shape Atlanta for yourself and your family over the next decade.

Political Representation

Whereas every state is allotted two senators, a complete and accurate count of Atlanta’s population is needed for redistricting and for calculating the number of legislators that will speak on our City’s behalf in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Allocation of Federal Funds

Over 70 federal agencies use U.S. Census data when deciding where to allocate their funds for the highways we travel every day, the schools our children attend, and the emergency preparedness programs that protect our communities. Therefore, every Atlantan needs to be counted, regardless of age, in order to secure the Pell Grants that send our promising young people to college and so that Atlanta can continue to offer affordable housing for our senior citizens.
